phenomenal book. only minus .5stars due to the very graphic (though necessary evil as the novel is about a war) depiction of death, violence, and sexual assault. it is very much more of a new-adult book than a YA in my opinion; the fantasy world is so well explained but not in a way that is entirely overwhelming and is quite easy to get into. some fantasy i find to be tiring to read just because of the massive amount of knowledge you need to retain but Kuang does a great job at making the world easily navigable. immediately jumping into book 2!
Graphic: Addiction, Death, Drug abuse, Drug use, Genocide, Gore, Rape, Sexual assault, Sexual violence, Torture, Violence, Fire/Fire injury, War
