Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas

2.0

I will fully admit, maybe this is a me problem, but I think I fully hate Sarah J. Maas' writing style. It's a ton of filler and then content that is actually excited and fun in the last 100 pages. These books have no business being as long as they are and the fact that the rest of the series (which 8 book? Mam....if you can't figure out how to tell the story in 4 books or less? It's giving cash grab, it's giving PLL - seek some help) just keeps getting long and longer? The idea of reading more "filler" for the next 4 books makes me want to unalive. You may ask, why keep reading? Good question. I have a toxic quality where I must see things all the way through even if I hate it (I also got the entire box set for my birthday so I have them anyway). I am also buddy reading this with a friend who has several tattoos dedicated to this series and I don't know how to tell her it's quickly becoming the bane of my existence. I quite literally cannot bring the words to life to describe how much I DO NOT CARE what happens to Celaena/Alein whatever the hell her name is. I only care about Dorian and Chaol. Also......I know the romantic outcome for Celaena based off of my friend and context clues (this is a pretty old book lets not pretend that it's spoilery ok - we are also halfway through so.....if you can't figure it out by this point then that's on you) IT'S GOING TO GET INCESTUOUS?! Like.....the way my friend is justifying this pair as "BARELY RELATED" scares me......how we can get from Calaena literally on the page telling this man that they are related to the outcome that I know is going to happen is beyond me. It would have been one thing if they already fell in love and then found out that they were related through a distant far off cousin - but to go in KNOWING and even calling his aunt HER aunt?! Nah. Stop it right there. I fear that I have gone off on a tangent that doesn't quite make a ton of sense anymore, so apologies for that. I feel like if you get this far into the series, it is what it is. Hopefully some of you out there will have more will power to quit when you start hating it.
