Come & Get It by Kiley Reid
4.75
emotional funny medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Reid created very detailed and thoughtful character profiles; they each had their own voice and personality, and their interactions seemed all the more genuine for it. Some of the characters weren’t necessarily lovable, but I don’t think they were meant to be. Kennedy stood out the most to me, personally - she reminds me of a lot of young women from my hometown that experience “bad things happening to them,” rather than hold themselves accountable. I hope white women that read this book truly see Kennedy, Jenna, or Tyler, empathize with them, and then learn to take responsibility for their own paths.
