Sure sounded like the late 40's, early 50's to me! It was also an interesting perspective on the staff life on Alcatraz. My brother-in-law worked at McNeil Island, another since-closed federal island prison in Washington State and it brought back memories of taking the prison shuttle boat to the island when we would visit for the day. Men in the family got to tour the institution while the female family members could not. All-in-all, an interesting read with bonus memories!
