The Waves by Virginia Woolf

3.0

Woolf's prose will never cease to amaze me. I've written down many words and metaphors to go over again--I've filled almost five pages in my notebook and I still haven't finished writing down everything!

This book is truly experimental since it is written in the present tense and is told from six different POVs in dramatic monologues. While the book took me almost two weeks to finish, and even if the writing was dense and often exhaustive, there's no denying that this book is an exquisite example of poetry in prose, and of thematic unity--"the waves" are there when the story begins and ends, and also they also govern the lives of the heroes.

I'd like to give this book a second chance when I'm older because I believe that Woolf's prose is catered for people in their middle age. If you're into Woolf's work, then make sure you have lots of patience for this one. If you haven't read anything from Woolf, then I highly suggest skipping this one and start with something less experimental.
