Strong Female Character by Fern Brady
4.5
challenging dark emotional informative inspiring reflective medium-paced

I found Fern through taskmaster then learnt she was autistic like me so did a binge of her interviews on YouTube. In one interview about this book, she said something along the lines of other people finding this book hilarious, but that she didn't mean for it to be funny, it was a genuine retelling of her life. I have to agree with her. Whilst there are a handful of times I laughed out loud, this was a gut wrenching story of someone who was and continues to be misunderstood and been through some serious shit.
This was a gripping story that showed the harsh realities of undiagnosed autism. A powerful read for people who want to understand more about what it means and feels like to be autistic, and strangely comforting for those of us who are autistic and can see themselves reflected on the page.
