Side Effects May Vary
by Julie Murphy
Raw. Honest. Ugly.
A very promising debut novel from Julie Murphy, a cancer story so different from other cancer stories (not that I've read that many, but still). Told in two perspectives, it's about a girl named Alice, who has been diagnosed with leukemia and has come to terms with dying, but then unexpectedly (a miracle according to her doctor) goes into remission and has to face the ugly truth. She has to deal with the consequences of all the mean things she has done to get back at people who had hurt her before her diagnosis.
It was super enjoyable and I felt really connected to the characters.
