Dark Night of the Soul by John of the Cross

The translation is more up to date, but still it is not really to be understood with our intellect. I feel that I get more from the poem itself than I do from St. John of the Cross' explanation of it. The reason for me seems to be that the poem hits me at a different level than the explanation. The introduction is helpful. I'm thankful for this translation which did at least allow me to read something I've tried to read previously.
