One-Eyed Royals by Cordelia Kingsbridge

5.0

That was... incredibly intense.

One-Eyed Royals is a few thousand words longer than its prequels, but it feels significantly longer. SO MUCH happens, constantly upping the ante and escalating situation after situation it left me reeling almost the entire time.

Content warnings include: torture, violence, murder, police brutality, antisemitism, homophobia, sexism, islamophobia, compulsive gambling, electrocution, Nazis, enucleation, abduction for ransom; mentions of rape, hate crimes and child abuse.

I made the whole experience (and reading this really was an experience!) even more intense for myself by putting the author's playlist for the book as background soundtrack while reading.

I'm still recovering from finishing this and don't have it in me to write a proper review but here are some highlights/notes:
-a new convoluted and exciting case for Levi and Dominic to solve (the blurb mentions mutilations: I was wary of that at first but I had no problem or was made uncomfortable by it in the end, but mind the content warning for kidnapping, electrocution, violence, SoS typical modus operandi, eye trauma and enucleation)
-unapologetic Nazi punching by two very hot people who know exactly how to make it hurt most is
