The Devourers by Indra Das

3.0

This is a strange one, and hard to rate. An interesting take on the werewolf/shapeshifter tale, referencing the shapeshifter in lore from multiple cultures, it examines the concept of what it really means to be human (one of my favorite topics in literature). It's vivid and detailed. I could see and smell so much as I read--honestly too much so for my taste. This book is not for the squeamish. So much gore and bodily fluids, to the point that my disgust overwhelmed my enjoyment in the story quite a few times. Add this one to your list to check off an interesting perspective on the shapeshifter tale from a talented writer, but don't plan to read on your lunch break.
