No Man's Mistress
by Mary Balogh
Ok, I can see much that was objectively wrong with this book (would Viola have such an easy acceptance into society? Absolutely never) and I know many people would actually quite dislike it, but, folks, I was vibes and loved it.
I had such a low opinion of Ferdinand from the first book. He was extremely nice and kind but seemed really aimless and dumb. Well he brings all that affability and kindness and complete refusal to get his feathers ruffled to this book but also finds a purpose. I love him.
Viola is complicated and my heart broke for her over and over.
Does this tie up maybe too tidily? Yes. Did I cry as all the wrapping up happened and the Dudleys did their best to stand behind someone who needed it? Also yes.
Angeline is a complete ninny but she really will not be bothered by society. When she said to Viola they weren't making her respectable, she already was, but respected, well, I was a mess on the plane as I read this.
