Okay I did not like the first book of this series very much, but lowkey it was kind of worth it for this one. Yes this book still has a lot of cliches, the writing style is nothing spectacular, reads like not-very-good fanfiction at times, but in a lot of ways reading this made the first book worth it. The characters made me actually feel something this book
(specifically, Tamlin made me MAD and it made me feel so vindicated for never really liking him LMAO)
Also I've loved Nesta since the very beginning of book 1 and this made me feel vindicated about that as well hahahaha

There are still some weird vibes with Rhysand not gonna lie. I ended up liking him a lot more from this book (and lowkey the end of the last one too), but even with all his justifications and reasonings for being kinda shitty and rape-y in the last book it still... sort of doesn't cut it for me. But whatever.

The thing that REALLY sold me on this book was the ending. It did get kind of dry and boring in the middle (also full disclosure I listened to most of it on audible, and there were definitely parts where I kind of just zoned out and was not paying attention at all). BUT the ending had me HOOKED I'm so serious.

I think something that keeps happening with this series for me is a lot of it is genuinely not very good, like the characters are bad, the plot is cliche, etc, but then I'll still get into it in a silly goofy way like I do with reality tv where you appreciate it for fun rather than it being quality media. BUT THEN something actually interesting will happen and it BLOWS MY MIND, kind of because my expectations had been set so low from the rest of the story. Does that make sense??? Lmao maybe that's a weird way of thinking about literature but I did genuinely enjoy this book, especially the ending. If it weren't for the ending it probably would have been 3 stars, maybe 3.5.
