Overall, I think this is one of the best thrillers I ever read. The way the stories all fit together is amazing and something about it makes me like it better than other crime novels.
There are just a few things that keep me from giving 5 stars.1) TJ’s perceived queerness and the homophobia as a plot point, though it seems realistic for the time period, that red herring left me a little iffy. 2) the class criticisms felt a bit underdeveloped, though I still appreciated the big theme of that and its role in the story. 3) using drugs/alcohol to make Alice an unreliable narrator.
As I said, this was generally a very enjoyable read that kept me interested and I liked what it was doing with its incorporation of class & gender dynamics. My criticisms don’t necessarily take away from my experience reading the book (which I finished in three days) but are definitely sticking out to me.
