Hans Fallada is an author that prior to an aimless search through the shelves of Waterstones' I'd never heard of but I am simply in love with his writing and the complexity within the plot. He questions the varying viewpoints in Nazi Germany and the characters are raw, real and flawed - there's no softening traits or characteristics, they feel real. That said, there are quite a few characters that are integral members of the plot but go unmentioned for several chapters so it can be difficult to keep up with them.
