The Book of (More) Delights: Essays by Ross Gay

emotional funny hopeful inspiring lighthearted reflective relaxing fast-paced

4.0

This was a delightful book. Ross Gay's eye for beauty and joy combines with his musical, poetic writing style to create an excellent prose offering.

My only disappointment was his apparent disdain for masking in a pandemic, which, while I agree that it diminishes several of those communal delights, is incredibly necessary in protecting the lives and ongoing delights of our immune-deficient friends and family. Any delight at the cost of another's life and wellbeing is not something I can join in celebrating, and as someone who has lost delights, lost friends, and lost family in the course of this pandemic, hearing his refusal to participate in that act of community care inspired grief, not delight, in my spirit.

That is my only qualm; otherwise, I immensely enjoyed this book.
