The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics by Olivia Waite

5.0

I came across this by accident, and what a lucky accident it was.
I loved this book for so many reasons, one of which is it is an actual happy lesbian romance, and it is well written. I know, my bar may be too low when those are my criteria.

I love the main characters, the only small annoyance is everyone referring to Catherine as old, she's 35 for heaven's sake. But I may be a bit touchy on the subject. Well-rounded characters with history and reasons. I loved that the plot was about science and women being recognized (or not).

And I thought the romance was well done.

If there's anything I felt was missing, it's an afterword with the facts about recognized women of science in the era, such as Herschel that one of the other reviewers mentioned. The fact that she wasn't included make me wonder how much was accurate and how much was not from the actual era and the science.

I'd still read it again.
