The Deep by Nick Cutter
2.0

As many reviewers before me have said, The Deep reads like a bastardisation of a number of original ideas presented many years before its publication. Nick Cutter can clearly write, but not well enough to out-Thing The Thing or out-Abyss The Abyss. He also struggled to hold my interest through the endless array of flashbacks which - though they do ultimately prove to have a point - slowed the main storyline's progression to an absolute crawl.

In short, this one is a perfect example of a "Meh" novel.
