The Sky Blues by Robbie Couch
2.0

2.5/5 stars.

I really didn't like the beginning. Sky really got on my nerves with his judgmental attitude towards straight people and him stalking his crush at his own house (This is never addressed again; it's played off like it's just something quirky Sky and his best friend do for fun, when stalking is the furthest thing from it). But I decided to stick to it and it gradually got better after 100 pages. A bit too late, but it was fine.

I really liked the emphasis on community and the support Sky got from nearly everyone at his whole school was very heartwarming. This lead to Sky getting some really good development and he learned that his stereotyping was wrong. He became a little more tolerable after that.

But the side cast was two-dimensional at best. Besides some good dialogue here and there, the characters weren't intriguing enough for me. Dan was cool, and I liked Winter
Spoiler(Why was it revealed last minute that it was her yearbook and that she was Sky's dad's best friend in high school. Even Sky had a bunch of questions about their relationship, but I doubt they'll ever be answered. This definitely should have come earlier and fleshed out more, because it really left made the whole ending so unsatisfying)

Overall, it was fine. Not the worst, but I don't think this one will be too memorable for me.
