Birds: Explore Their Extraordinary World by Miranda Krestovnikoff

3.0

Beautifully illustrated information text on birds and 'their extraordinary world'. Sumptuously illustrated by Angela Harding with wood-cut-like coloured illustrations and very well-penned by Miranda Krestovnikoff, it guides the reader through birds according to habit and category with a mixture of full-page images and short but engaging passages.

Large in size (slightly larger than A4 in width and height) with a 'no-expense spared' approach to design, quality and cover, it makes for a beautiful coffee-table book...but perhaps not a book that I could gift to a child. This is all personal of course, but when it comes to books about animals I much prefer photographs otherwise how do I properly identify and spot them (unless images are life-like). As an introduction to the stories behind birds, this is beautiful but it covers a broad range, lightly.
