Breed of Innocence by Lanie Jordan
3.0
This is a story of a teenager, Jade, who gets scooped up by a secret organization to be trained to fight demons. Two years prior to the start of the book she lost her family to a demon attack. She is more than ready to learn the skills she needs to avenge her family’s murders.
It is a fast paced enjoyable read. There is a real story here! Things happen! When you've read a few books in a row that seem to drag on this is a very refreshing thing.
The characters are well written. Jade is tough, independent, and impulsive without reading like a whiny teenager. I also feel the other lead characters – Mr. Greene and Lincoln – are well done. The relationship between Lincoln and Jade develops naturally without the instant love connection that seems to be so popular in YA fiction.
I hope the next book has more about the demons and science done by the organization. I felt some of the details were rushed in this one so I hope they are more developed in the next installment.
I was given a free copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
