Never I all my days did I think I’d ever be a Liz Cheney fan. While I personally disagree with her on policy I have the utmost respect for her and commend her for putting country before party. Her book is a must read for Republicans, Democrats, Independents, or otherwise as it thoroughly outlines the events leading up to, during and after January 6th, 2021. Her unique insight as a member of Congress who was there that day along with her political views of the what the Republican Party has come to make for some interesting and eye opening reading. My hope is that the people who really need to read this do.
“Today, we must take Donald Trump’s statements literally. Trump has told us that he thinks the Constitution can and should be suspended when necessary, that what happened on January 6 was justified, and that in a second Trump presidency he would seek retribution. And much more. Some have suggested that ‘the normal US checks and balances’ of our Constitutional system would constrains Trump. They won’t.”
“If Trump is on the ballot, the 2024 presidential election will not just be about inflation, or budget deficits, or national security, or any of the major critical issues we Americans normally face. We will be voting on whether to preserve our republic. As a nation, we can endure damaging policies for a four-year term. But we cannot survive a president willing to terminate our Constitution.”
