Demian by Hermann Hesse

This is one of those books that you need to put down after reading ten pages because it makes you think too much. It makes you feel empathic with a main character who you have nothing in common with, yet you understand the inner struggle he goes through, which we all go through in our teenage years: understanding who we are, what we're meant to do, who we're supposed to connect with. I read it after my teenage years and I'm still going through the same thing, but this book made me understand that we're not supposed to know the answers to these questions when we're young, or even ever. All that matters is working towards understand ourselves through our own work, instead of attempting to make sense of the ever-changing society around us.
