Love Is A War Song by Danica Nava
4.25
emotional reflective medium-paced

This book was such a surprise for me. I didn't expect to have so many feelings throughout this story. Going into this knowing this is a popstar meets small town cowboy romance, I was in awe of how real & relatable this story & our FMC, Avery, is.

Avery meets her grandmother for the first time after retreating from her popstar lifestyle due to being cancelled. She escapes the drama to try to connect to her roots, ones she knows little to nothing about due to her mother sheltering her from their past. During her stay, she meets Lucas, the man who helps run her grandmother's horse ranch. She's a fish out of water & he wants nothing to do with her, but with every enemies-to-lovers story, their snappy banter turns into much more than they both bargained for...

This is very much a self-discovery journey told through Avery's POV. I absolutely ate up each moment - Avery's stardom experiences that brought her up & then tore her down, to her vulnerability trying to get to know her grandmother & connect to her family. She's a strong character who is also seeking a place to belong, & I just really connected to her in ways I didn't expect.

The love story from enemies to friends to lovers & I truly loved how Lucas looks out for Avery, seeing her more than just her popstar persona. Lucas is such an interesting character & through Danica's incredible writing, we get to really understand his trauma & how much Avery & Lucas complement one another.

The audiobook is wonderfully narrated by Kyla Garcia, who embodies Avery. This was my first time listening to her & hopefully won't be my last.
