As a thriller, this was incredibly dark and cinematic. I was grossed out and horrified numerous times through, which is a testament to how good the writing was.
However, as a romance novel, I felt this sequel was lacking. The couple felt distanced throughout the novel, and I wasn’t satisfied with the resolution of their conflict. It didn’t feel much like they’d actually grown as a couple. Things felt rushed.
