Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

5.0

Honestly, this is one of my favorite “classical” novels. The story of Frankenstein and his creation is well known, but i was glad to read The original story myself. While Frankenstein treats himself as the tormented hero in contrast to his creation, Shelley does a wonderful job of showing that the two men are not as different as they think. Both desire companionship and knowledge, but ultimately are doomed by their actions: the doctor loses his friends and family and the creation loses his humanity and eventually his chances of a final confrontation with the doctor. The secondary title of “The Modern Prometheus” is very fitting.
