Ready for chapter books? Like dogs and mysteries and books that are a series? Look no further!
King is a golden retriever who has a mystery, well actually 2 mysteries, to solve! King finds himself in the P-O-U-N-D (that's a bad word in doggy talk) at the beginning of the book because he has lost his family! The people he lives with have gone missing and he's found himself in the P-O-U-N-D! He is able to escape from there by being adopted by his new family. And even better, his new family lives right behind his old house! That will make it easier to find his real family. But on his first walk around the neighborhood, he loses his new owner! So now King has to find his old family and new family! This sleuthing dog will have to get busy!
I like this book because it's told in the voice of King. Children will laugh every time King finds food (everything is his favorite food!) and his inability to count! King also talks about his thought process when he goes about solving his mysteries - he makes lists of what he knows, what he needs to find out and from there he makes his action plan.
Warning: this book does have some "Stranger Danger" in it. If reading with a young child, you may want to first discuss what to do if a stranger approaches you and what is ok to say and/or do! It turns out fine in the book, King discovers that the "Scary" Man isn't scary, but actually scared of dogs.
This book is the first in a series and should appeal to young dog-lovers!
