Doña Rosita la soltera o el lenguaje de las flores by Federico García Lorca

4.0

Book #5 of my Español-a-thron turned out to be a play (this marathon is really making my reading diverse!). Before this book, I only knew Lorca as a poet.

The story revolves around Rosita, the jilted bride, and people closest to her - her uncles and nurse. The first half of the book was filled with various side-characters, numerous friends who seemed to have come only for unimportant banter. Kind of like buzzing bees in a rose garden. Towards the end, our vibrant Rosita starts to visibly wilt, her speech is full of defeat and hopelessness, seeking only oblivion and solitude. The transformation is parallel to the transformation of a rose which is described and referred to numerous times.

It was pretty easy to read - the book being all dialogue.
