The Devouring Gray by C.L. Herman

3.0

The Devouring Gray is a YA mystery novel that tells the tale of a group of students that have descended from founders of the town they live in. I became really interested in this book after seeing a gleaming review by @elliasreads and was captivated by the premise of the story. However, I felt quite disappointed with how I didn't find it as great as I thought it was going to be...

POSITIVES:
* great premise that draws you in
* brilliant LGBTQ+ representation that's inclusive
* good range of characters
* good world building
-
NEGATIVES:
* felt my interest in the book start to slip around halfway through
* didn't meet the high expectations I had for it
* feels overhyped
* felt as though there was something missing from the story

At the end of the day, it was a great story with brilliant representation. I just wish I had connected to it a bit more nearer the end.
