It Could Be Anyone

It Could Be Anyone by Jaime Lynn Hendricks
The story starts with Trevor dropping dead at his own wedding, brought down by an allergic reaction. It could not have happened to a more deserving man. Trevor was a skunk, a sleazy, blackmailing bottom feeder, who weaseled his way into marriage to Fiona by holding the secrets of her best friends over their heads. Let the funeral begin!
Once Trevor drops dead, the story goes back and forth between a couple of days before the wedding and further back, to the times when Trevor makes his original threats, with pictures and video, known to each of the friends. This had been a group of seven college friends until Trevor did his dirty work on one of them. That had shown the group that they'd be out if their secrets were known, so now each of them feels they must go along with Trevor's demands.
The only person with a backbone is already gone so we get to watch the friends dig deeper holes. Who'd want friends like this? It's so improbably that all these friends could have such dark and dirty pasts but it seems they were like magnets to each other (or something else was going on) for them to all come together in college, to be glued to each other, well over ten years later. And now all peace of mind is being destroyed by Trevor.
If only the characters were more likeable but they lack so much. Common sense, the decency to tell the truth, the gumption to admit the past and face up to it. But no, lie at all costs and do more dumb things to make things worse, I would never trust any of these people so I guess they deserve each other. So...who killed Trevor?
