The forgery storyline is a great way to continue along the art track allowing us to revisit Kate Hollyrod and the duchess through Alan as an art critic. I loved the element of the art world in the first book, and it works well here too. I especially like Alan’s bohemian household. However, I didn’t feel as invested in these characters’ stories as the first two in the series. It’s possibly tied to the theme of neglect and abuse throughout the characters’ lives, but I think it’s more likely that the supportive family relationship present in the first two books was missing in this story. Neal reappears as Alan’s lifelong friend, but the bond and support he provided in Alan’s life doesn’t really come across. Overall, I enjoyed stepping back into the world with these characters, but it missed the mark a bit for me.
