Emma by Alexander McCall Smith

3.0

Was Austen's Emma a heartless liar like McCall Smith's? Or is that just a reflection on society today, since this is a modernization. Mr. Knightley was untouched in character, though he didn't make many appearances. And I suppose the author felt it necessary to experiment with the character's sexuality because it was a modernization as well.

I prefer regency Emma.
