Cursed: An Anthology of Dark Fairy Tales
by Marie O'Regan, Paul Kane
Anthologies have a tendency to be hit or miss since the author/voice changes with each new story. This one was a big miss for me. The majority of the stories seemed to be purple prose with no plot. The flow from story to story felt very clunky, like there wasn't a lot of thought as to what order they should be in. I think I would have enjoyed it just a little bit more if there was more consistency in the organization and I wasn't constantly jumping back and forth from good story to not-so-good story every 20 pages.
I would like to give a shoutout to the stories that I thought were absolutely amazing and I would have loved to see more of that world:
As Red As Blood, As White As Snow by Christina Henry
Listen by Jen Williams (my favorite)
Henry and the Snakewood Box M.R.Carey
Again by Tim Lebbon
I'll be honest, if you're looking for an anthology of stories, maybe look for a different one.
