I'm not sure what happened. The author was amazingly talented at writing, but the content got uncomfortably dark real fast. There was self mutilation , and I just couldn't enjoy it once that happened repeatedly. You can write dark fantasy with gothic undertones without needing to bring that up. I don't know if the author planned on pulling a SJM with the anti-hero, but I just disliked him too much to continue.
