Brooke Shields is Not Allowed to Get Old: Thoughts on aging as a woman by Brooke Shields

funny hopeful lighthearted reflective fast-paced

4.0

Brooke Shields has a unique perspective on life and being a woman because she's always been in the public eye in a way a lot of women never have. Because of that, she has a lot of insight into the way women are portrayed and seen and treated as they go through life. The only issue is it is all still through the lens of being 'Brooke Shields' so it doesn't always feel very relevant to the average person. There is a big focus on her work to start her own beauty business and a section that discusses women in the work place as they age, which felt a little less relatable to the average woman. If you're a rich or upper middle class white woman though it probably will relate a bit more to you.

There are also a lot of references in this book to the docuseries about her, Pretty Baby. If you happen to have watched that recently or decide to watch it after the book, there are a lot of times where she repeats things from the docuseries in the book. It's not a big deal, but it was a bit distracting, so I would recommend not watching that and reading this very close together.
