Confess
by Colleen Hoover
I’ve read/listened to five of Hoover’s books, and this is the third one in which I chose the audiobook. Of the five, I’ve given three stars to the ones I listened to. When I listen to Hoover’s work, it’s easier to notice the simplicity of her writing style. And it leaves me wanting more.
I didn’t connect with the characters in this book. It had potential, but I was disappointed with Auburn’s character development. *SPOILER* For example, Auburn sleeping with Owen when she was in a committed relationship with Trey. While I understand Trey is abusive, I was disappointed that Auburn went against her conscience in that moment. I get it: A moment of weakness. But I feel Hoover settles with a lot of her female characters, and she tends to make the men angelic. It gets boring.
I understand the appeal of this book. There was so much I loved. But what I didn’t love was enough to knock it to three stars.
