“It fell to the floor, an exquisite thing, a small thing that could upset balances and knock down a line of small dominoes and then big dominoes and then gigantic dominoes, all down the years across Time. Eckels' mind whirled. It couldn't change things. Killing one butterfly couldn't be that important! Could it?”

Year 2055, time travel has become a practical reality and wealthy adventurers looking for strong emotions can travel back in time to hunt extinct species. During one of the travels, a scared hunter steps off the levitating path and stumbles into the forest, millions of years ago. This accident, apparently insignificant, causes radical changes in time, like the president elect and the language. What happened when the hunter stepped off the path?

A Sound of Thunder is a brilliant and beautifully written short novel (it's so short that instead of reading this review you should just go ahead and read the story directly).
I'm always fascinated by the concept of time travel, and in this case I loved how Ray Bradbury describes time travel and its consequences in such a precise, beautiful and dramatic way. He truly is a master of words.

Interesting fact: the concept behind what we all now know as the "butterfly effect" actually made its first appearance in this story. How cool is that?

A Sound of Thunder is a little gem, too bad it's so short.
4 stars.
