Of Nightmares & Fire by Blake Gallows
5.0

Where do I start with this! I love this book!

In this book we follow Astraea who is the princess in a kingdom her father usurped. Despite being a princess, Astraea has been trapped in her life and suffered immensely at the hand of her cruel father, as well as suffering from something haunting her in her dreams.

Through a series of events Astraea meet Kyros and his brother Mavros who are searching for a relic that will allow the return of magic to the kingdom and reinstall the rightful king to the throne. Their plans involve infiltrating the palace to search for this relic but all of their carefully made plans are thrown into chaos when they meet Astraea and the story develops for there

I absolutely loved the world building is this book. The magic system was interesting and unique with dream magic playing a huge role in the plot. The synopsis references the sandman and you definitely visualise the magic in this way. Within the dream magic there is also the possibility of harm/death in nightmares and the book synopsis describes nightmare on Elmstreet vibes which you can definitely feel and I am interested to see where this element of the magic goes in later books.

Astraea was a very interesting character and you can’t help but feel attached to her the more you learn about her life. I enjoyed seeing her explore the world she has been sheltered from. We also see her start to take back her life and the internal struggle she has with wanting more for herself.

There is an element of found family in the book which I expect to see further develop in book 2 and I am excited to see where the other characters stories go, I feel that this will be a series where you care for all of the characters not just the fmc/mmc.

I loved the romance in this book and dynamic between Astraea and Kyros. You kind of know where they are likely heading but the tension and burn was perfect between them. It definitely gave rowan and Ailen vibes for me which is a top tier romance ❤️‍🔥 so I expect my love for this the grow as the series progresses. I’d say generally that towards the end of the book, some of the plot points also gave me ToG vibes. The plot is completely different but I think you’ll understand the feeling when you read it! Like most MMCs we all love, Kyros has the dark broody attitude towards everyone but that melts for Atraea. There’s also the protective/touch her and ☠️ vibes contracted with all the little things he will do for her ❤️

Overall, this was a great read! It was bingable, hooked me in from the beginning, has a unique world/plot and also contains all perfect tropes and devices of a good romantasy. I would definitely recommend picking this one up when it releases ❤️ I can’t wait to read book 2!

Thank you so much to Blake Gallows for sending me an early copy of the book! Ad to Crowns and Chaos PR for sending me the opportunity to read Blake’s book!
