Sins of the Father by Sharon Bairden

3.0

Clearly I'm in the minority here, but I didn't love this one, and I really wanted to. After reading the blurb and other people's reviews about how dark and disturbing this book is, I couldn't wait to dive in. The thing is though, I didn't bond with this writing style and I didn't find it to be specifically strong. Over and above that, the first half of the story (when Rebecca was a kid) was fantastic and I was glued to every page (and yes, it was dark and disturbing and exactly what I love), but then Rebecca reaches adulthood, and that's where the story lost me. I found the plot to be ridiculous and many elements of it truly unbelievable. Over and above that, Rebecca was an awful person and I didn't bond or like her at all. And yes, I know why she was awful, but still, I couldn't find one redeeming feature about her. And her husband was weak and pathetic, and no, just no. It didn't work for me. Sorry, but this one gets a 3 star rating from me, and that's being kind. If the first half hadn't been so engrossing, the rating would have been lower.
