The Forgotten Book
by Mechthild Gläser
Loved it! First of all, the cover. Stunning. Second, the writing and translation seems to have developed since The Book Jumper from 2017. The writing flowed more smoothly. I didn't see the twist coming at the end. It was a good twist, but not like a knife to the gut kind of twist where you scream at the book because that couldn't have possibly happened, but more like a sweet twist where you're ok with it because it makes sense and it didn't stab you in the back. If that doesn't make sense, read the book, and it will. The fairy tales that are part of the story were fun and a little darker; they involve fairies and the one about the faun feels a little Beauty and the Beast-esque, which was awesome. There is a YA trope, in that the boy and girl don't like each other at first, and end up together, but I'm total trash for that trope, so I loved it. The setting was beautiful, and the idea that whatever is written in the book comes true was executed well, and slightly differently than I expected. It was well thought through, but not over thought. I just can't say enough good about this book.
