Probably going to be repeating what other people have said but this is definitely not what you expect.

Mila and Silas's story starts out as a kind of paranormal romance and yet suddenly turns into an odd Christian love story.

I've never really read a book where religion, at least the Christian faith, is included in such a way. In parts overzealous and preachy but also full of the feelings and emotions of genuine faith, it is quite a positive exploration of love.

Mila goes from ambiguous sentimentality to love quite quickly which was somewhat off-putting. I've read a few reviews that even put her sudden belief in God as unrealistic but if you'd had undeniable proof in His existence, as Mila had, I suppose it would be hypocritical to be on the fence.

Mila's sudden feelings aside, the constant love and support from Silas was lovely and dies reiterate what a husband is supposed to be like, according to the Bible.

I did find the dialogue a little stilted although that might have been due to Silas's newly formed status and speech patterns.

It was an odd read. I can't say I fully enjoyed it but I appreciated the positive exploration of Christianity in a YA and the kind of constant opposition from well-meaning people.
