Sincerely, Your Inconvenient Wife by Julia Wolf

slow-paced

2.0

Characters: Saoirse and Luca (Luke)

Saoirse (I think it’s pronounced Sear-sha) and Luca meet one night at his condo, his cousin Vincent had a party at Luca’s place and Saoirse’s friend brought her. Saoirse’s friend went with Vincent so Saoirse went and hung out in a bedroom and ended up passing out. Luca gets home from work and he finds her, so they strike up a conversation and one thing leads to another and they are just about to have sex, when they are interrupted by his cousin.

Luca finds out that Saoirse is working for his company, and at first he thinks that she is stalking him, but then he finds out that she is best friends with Elise (his friend Eliott, his sister).

So Luca and Saoirse go from seeing each other at work, to him asking her to marry him so his sister and family get off of his back.

I really disliked Luca and his treatment of Saoirse, when they finally do have sex (around the 50% mark) he doesn’t want to have sex at his condo, because he wants to save his home for his “real wife”, because him and Saoirse are only going to be married for two years. I felt that he treated her as he would treat a common prostitute. When he finally gets his head out of his butt and realizes that he loves her, she acts like she can’t remain married to him because she doesn’t believe in marriage. I thought that was a really dumb excuse for a third act break up.

Luca would constantly be pulling away from her during the book, it felt like he would do all hot and cold on her with his feelings, so it put her in a purgatory state of not knowing where to go in their relationship. He could have easily opened himself up and told her how he truly felt , and maybe she wouldn’t have acted the way she did. Thank God for Elena, for basically telling Saoirse that she was stupid for thinking that she can’t remain married to Luca, because of her hiccups with her parents.

I really disliked  Saoirse’s mother, she was a total nightmare and honestly she didn’t shock me as being a person in public office. All of those people are so fake and disingenuous. If she truly loved her husband, she would have made things work with him, instead of putting him through emotional turmoil, and putting her children through hell as they grew up. All because she wanted to keep her family line in politics, it was really stupid. The father seemed like a really good guy, even though supposedly he had cheated on his wife, but I could understand that he did make a stupid mistake, but his wife really drove him to that. Unfortunately, his wife continued to punish him for his infidelity. I don’t understand why she just didn’t divorce her husband, and why she stayed married to the man when she didn’t want to come to a compromise. So that’s why Saoirse was so messed up when it came to marriage.
