The Luck of Roaring Camp by Bret Harte

3.0

Harte's short story isn't perfect, but it is an interesting window into the male-dominated wild west. Actually, after Cherokee Sal's death, Roaring Camp is entirely men and now they're stuck with a newborn baby. With a set up like this, a reader might think there'll be a humorous punch-line, but don't be fooled: this story is packed with emotions.
