I struggled through the first 30% of this story as the heroine was incredibly abrasive, but I tried to keep in mind that I don't deal with anxiety like she does. My lived experience is different. Finally, right at that 30% mark, Emmy showed some vulnerability and stopped treating Ryan like a villain. That was definitely a turning point in my enjoyment of the book.
Ryan, for his part, was absolute book boyfriend perfection.
The realistic anxiety representation as well as the repeated pandemic and lockdown references made this book tough to read at times, but I loved the setting, the friendships, and all of the history lessons.
