Precursor: I have owned these DVD's and books for 10+ years and am no longer supporting JKR in any way. My rating is based on my enjoyment of the books (and my sentimental attachment to them), not my views of her as a person. Sincerely a trans person, who thinks she's walking evil.
Having recently rewatched the first movie and now having re-read the second book, the books have held up a lot better than the movies in terms on enjoyment for adults as well as kids. I picked up on so many little logical mistakes and unexplained things in the movie, while the book still had the same magic and transporting you to another world I remembered.
Nothing will ever be better at getting me out of a reading slump than these books, I know better than any other fictional universe.
