Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
3.0

I think this book has been the subject of controversial and discussion for good reason. But at the end of the day, it is healthy to remember that there does exist a distinction between a writer and their characters, as Nabokov himself points out in his afterward.
Overall, I won't be rereading this book, and I won't go out of my way to recommend that anyone else does so, but I'm glad I read it, especially because, in my experience, it seems that while most people know of the book and its contents, few have read it.
It was disturbing. Humbert was unrelatable and terrible and sick. Near the end, I became somewhat dissatisfied with events, and I pitied Dolores throughout. There were times I had to put the book down to stave off nausea. But I was determined to finish it, and again, I'm glad I challenged myself to do so.
