American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld

4.0

I mostly liked this, although I agree with other reviewers that the fourth section is by far the weakest. Sittenfeld has a habit of writing narratives that focus on transition points, and after focusing on one, she jumps forward in time to the next major transition. The problem with this is that you don't really get to see how the characters got from Point A to Point B and are left to infer it. Also, she then fills in the gaps via flashbacks - and I find those flashbacks jarring and uncompelling. Great characters here (well, in the first 3 sections) and interesting stuff, for the most part. But she just couldn't sustain it through until the end.
