The Rule of Thirds: A Pippa Greene Novel
by Chantel Guertin
Well. Hmmm. It wasn't the worst book I've read. But it was very far from the best.
The plot revolves around a young photographer that is trying to get into a highschool photography program all while dealing with the recent death of her dad, working volunteer hours at the local hospital, and trying to figure out which of two boys she actually likes.
Unfortunately, the story fell flat for me. I didn't *feel* anything for any of the characters, the dialog was blah, and all the twists seemed remarkably predictable. For instance, Ben (love interest #1 and smarmy dude extraordinaire) - OF COURSE he was the school thief. He was so obviously bad news! Of COURSE he stole the photos. Next up, OF COURSE Dylan (love interest #2) had cancer. Why else did he have bruises. Why else was he around the hospital? What other way could he be more tied into her story? And OF COURSE Pippa gets into the program. Of COURSE she ends up with her love interest and he kisses her at the end. And then sidelines: What? Why are the two best friends fighting? Where did that come from? Did we just need more tension? Because that's exactly why it felt like there was a fight.
There were a few cute moments (read: Twizzler bouquet) and the story moves along quickly enough, but overall, it's nothing to get excited about. Even though I wanted it to be.
