While I'm glad to have gotten a taste of Chuck Palahniuk's mid-career work, nothing here surprised me. As usually emphasized from his perspective, human bodies are disgusting, yes yes. Underground enterprises run on fumes of toxicity and shockingly copious amounts of violence/mutilation. No matter the perspective, observations of women quickly vascillated from adoring to repulsed. The abhorrent attention to detail was mildly funny. However I've grown so accustomed to Palahniuk's rhythms that I called the plot twists out about midway through.
