The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side: A Miss Marple Mystery
by Agatha Christie
This is my absolute favourite book from Agatha Christie. This was the book that made me realize I had to pay attention to every single word that was written because a great author would make each of them count.
What I appreciate the uttermost about Christie is the fact that all her books reflect an insane level of effort & dedication to her craft. There is not a single instance in which you might find her not trying to produce a good story. I cannot speak of her personal motives—how wonderful it would be to thank her for all the wonderful stories she has given me to read—but her work is reflective of her skill & her forethought.
While reading this book I had taken the approach of paying attention. I have decent memory recall & enjoy reading mysteries which require me to piece together dialogue, events, slit movements, etc. because it allows me to work for the reveal—I have to be present of mind. I thought I had a decent understanding of the characters in this book & where they stood in terms of the plot as a whole & yet, I was wrong.
When I tell you that I was shocked when I realized what very minute detail revealed the entirety of the time, I mean to say that I was absolutely dumbfounded. I admit, if you hold more knowledge than I in said department, one which I shall not reveal for the sake of spoilers, you may easily deduce the twist. That being said, I am confident that this story will still find enjoyable for you.
What a superbly fantastic book.
