This is labelled a 'domestic thriller', and I guess that works as a description for a story about a missing child. I don't think there was a single likeable character that was given enough time for the audience to get to know them, although the sibling of the missing child might almost have managed it.
About the 2/3 mark the story slowed down, and I nearly put it down and might not have picked it up again. But I had a quiet afternoon, and the one book, so kept going. Worth it, but eh, could have done with a bit less wallowing.
The story is mostly resolved, and yet there is a surprisingly pat ending that also manages to leave a whole lot of stuff open.
I read it across two days, and it was worth the time. I'm not sure that I'm the right audience, but will possibly pick something else up by the author and see what I think.
